Mclaren Carbon Fiber Parts Manufacturing Process
Mold Design and Preparation: High-precision molds are made according to OEM data or buyer specifications. Molds are inspected and treated with release agent for smooth surfaces and accurate dimensions.
Material Cutting and Preforming: Prepreg or dry carbon fiber sheets are cut into specific shapes. Fiber direction and layer thickness are strictly controlled for strength, weight reduction, and durability.
Lay-Up: Carbon fiber layers are carefully placed into the mold following the designed lay-up schedule. Reinforcements are added in high-stress areas if necessary.
Vacuum Bagging: The lay-up is sealed under vacuum to remove trapped air and apply uniform pressure, ensuring a solid, void-free laminate.
Curing: Autoclave Curing: Heat and high pressure produce lightweight, strong, and smooth-finished parts.
Vacuum Infusion: Resin is infused evenly under vacuum to ensure consistent quality.
Demolding and Trimming
Cured parts are removed from the mold and trimmed using CNC or precision tools to achieve accurate fitment and clean edges.
Surface Finishing
Parts are sanded, polished, and coated with UV-resistant clear coat (gloss or matte) to enhance appearance and durability.
Quality Inspection
Each part undergoes: dimensional verification, surface finish check, fitment test, and structural integrity inspection. Inspection records are maintained for traceability.
Packaging and Export
Parts are packed with foam protection and reinforced export cartons to ensure safe international shipping.

Types of Surface Treatments for Carbon Fiber Parts
Gloss Finish
Features: Glossy and smooth surface, reflective as a mirror. Clear presentation of the preparation texture.
Workmanship: After the fittings fall off, they are polished several times and coated with a clear, high-gloss varnish. Sanding starts with 240 grit and gradually increases to 800-2000 grit, up to 1500 grit.
Satin Finish
Features: The surface luminosity and smoothness are between glossy and matte, giving a soft and smooth touch. The surface is more reflective than the smooth surface with functional and aesthetic.
Process: The surface is sprayed with a medium-gloss varnish, or the surface of the composite material is repeatedly polished to control its roughness. (Ra 0.4-0.8 μm).
Matte Finish
Features: Non-reflective surface with a matte finish. Showing a slightly woven texture of carbon fiber and it’s easy to hide scratches and scuffs. Dirty-resistant surface, low maintenance
Process: The surface is sprayed with matte varnish or sandblasted.
Peel Ply Finish
Features: Because of its special use – needed to bond with other objects, its surface is rough and porous, without coating coverage, to prepare for subsequent bonding.
Process: Before fixing the composite material, the surface of the carbon fiber prepreg is covered with a stripping layer (e.g. nylon cloth). After fixing is completed, the stripping layer is torn off to form a rough texture.
